PARIS 2024: THE SH ROOM AS AN ASSET FOR PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE

Work to refurbish the SH Room at Paris-Charles de Gaulle began last September and is now well underway. The Hotel area satellite is one of the key infrastructures in the reception arrangements put in place by Groupe ADP in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The aim is to use this room to absorb the traffic associated with departing sports delegations, once the events have finished and passenger baggage has been checked in at the Olympic Village. The refurbishment project encompasses the boarding lounges (Schengen and international) and toilet facilities, as well as a check-in area and the creation of a temporary 1,400 sq.m. structure to house six security screening checkpoints and three Border Police booths. The SH room will therefore have all the functionalities of a terminal so as to meet the operational challenges posed by the Games. Passengers will either walk directly to their aircraft or be taken by bus to their boarding lounge. “The work is due to be completed at the end of March, at which time the operating systems will be tested”, explains Vincent Hue, the project's prime contractor.

GROUPE ADP WINS AN AWARD AT
"NUIT DE LA DATA ET DE L’IA"

The Nuit de la Data et de l’IA (Data and AI Night) awards brought together hundreds of professionals to celebrate the best Data innovations in four categories. Credit: All rights reserved.

Groupe ADP, alongside software company Cosmo Tech, was awarded the silver medal in the “Client-supplier collaboration” category at the second edition of the "Nuit de la Data et de l'IA". The jury praised the innovation of the application developed by the Engineering and Assets Management Department of the Information Systems Division and the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games project management team. This tool is a digital twin of the delegation arrival process; a digital twin being a digital representation of a real object, such as a terminal. It will be used in the operations centre to simulate shuttle routes during the Olympic Games in order to predict the risks of potential saturation in their pick-up points at Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airports.

GROUPE ADP AND GRTGAZ: A JOINT STUDY ON HYDROGEN TRANSPORTATION

The gradual increase in the use of hydrogen will enable Groupe ADP to move towards its objective of carbon neutrality by 2030, and then towards net zero emissions by 2050. Credit: Adobe Stock.

GRTgaz and Groupe ADP have launched a study into the transportation of hydrogen to Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airports. This combined expertise will contribute to the emergence of a French hydrogen industry and the decarbonisation of air transport. According to Augustin de Romanet, Chairman and CEO, “"this project is in line with our ambition to transform the Paris airports into energy hubs for sustainable air transport and for the ecological transition of the regions in which they are located".” GRTgaz will assess the hydrogen supply logistics chains, exploring the reuse of existing gas pipelines and the construction of new ones, while Groupe ADP will contribute its vision for the growth of hydrogen demand at the Paris airports and its expertise in terms of airport development incorporating hydrogen. The 12-month study will also help to identify potential distribution network routes.

PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE: THE GROUPE ADP-AIR FRANCE OPERATIONAL CHALLENGE IS UNDERWAY!

Launched recently for a period of one month, the challenge involves the daily analysis of the performance of medium-haul flights from Terminals 2E, 2F and 2G on the early morning Air France slots. Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

Anticipation, collaboration and communication are the key words for the operational challenge launched jointly by Groupe ADP and Air France at Paris-Charles de Gaulle on 4 March. This challenge, which also brings together the assistance, security and PRM service providers, is part of the action plan implemented by Groupe ADP to improve punctuality. “The aim is to work together to gain a better understanding of the factors affecting punctuality and to take an objective look at performance”, explains Sullyvann Bourgeois, Head of Engineering and Methods at the APOC. “We have chosen to focus on medium-haul morning flights between 6 am and 8:55 am.” Every day for one month, two new meetings were held to share and analyse the main punctuality indicators and optimise preparations for the following day's operations. We’ll be back in April with the results of this original and inclusive initiative.

A WORKSHOP ON THE COLLECTIVE LOW-CARBON APPROACH

On 29 February, representatives from the airports, the General Resources, Supply Chain and Procurement Division and the Sustainable Development and Project Division met with their 10 main suppliers to launch the collective low-carbon approach workshop. Following this initial meeting and exchanges, each supplier will receive support with their climate strategy as part of the ACT (Assessing low-Carbon Transition) initiative, supported by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe). Groupe ADP is also suggesting that smaller suppliers join the Pacte PME Alliance , collective [SME Pact Alliance] which unites 9 major accounts committed to decarbonising their supply chain. By bringing its ecosystem of suppliers on board, the Group is continuing to reduce its indirect emissions, in line with its commitments.

RESULTS OF AUDITS ON BOEING AND ITS SUBCONTRACTOR’S MANUFACTURING PROCESSES

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has published the findings of its audit of Boeing and its subcontractor Spirit Aerosystems, prompted by the incident on 5 January involving a Boeing 737 MAX 9. The agency says it has “identified non-compliance issues in the manufacturing process control, part handling and storage, and product control.” It has also issued 53 recommendations to remedy the unsatisfactory findings concerning the manufacturer's practices.

AMERICAN AIRLINES PLACES ORDER TO COVER THE NEXT TEN YEARS

American Airlines has ordered 260 aircraft from Airbus, Boeing and Embraer, with options and purchase rights for a further 193 aircraft. Having taken delivery of 600 new aircraft over the past decade, American Airlines now has 440 new aircraft in its order book. Its current fleet comprises 965 aircraft, plus another 550 regional aircraft operated by its subsidiaries.

TRANSAVIA PUTS AN END TO FREE CABIN BAGGAGE

Starting on 3 April, Transavia, an Air France-KLM airline, will be charging passengers for their cabin baggage, following in the footsteps of Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air. Baggage, seat selection, meals, entertainment: several services that used to be included in the price of an air fare are now subject to charge and are at the heart of the low-cost airline business model.

MIXED RESULTS FOR LUFTHANSA

Lufthansa presented its 2023 results last week, posting a net profit double that of 2022. This year, Europe's leading airline group has decided to resume the payment of dividends to its shareholders for the first time since the pandemic. According to the group's trade unions, this decision is in conflict with Lufthansa's refusal to accede to the demands of its employees, who have staged a series of strikes over recent months.
