In 2019, French brand Le Coq Sportif won the tender to dress the entire French delegation of 900 Olympic and Paralympic athletes for Paris 2024. The kit features Team France’s new identity, unveiled at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, meaning all athletes will now be sporting the same emblem: a conquering and combative cockerel, eyes locked on victory. For the first time in more than a century, the national symbol is presented not in profile, but from above. The blue, white and red are blended to symbolise unity for France and represent diversity.

Paris-Le Bourget Airport will soon have its own a hydrogen station, built by HysetCo. The first fuelling tests are currently underway, with a view to commissioning next February. With a distribution capacity of more than 650 kg/day (at 350 and 700 bars), the station will ultimately have a capacity of one tonne per day. This fifth station will be an extension to the Paris region’s hydrogen network. HysetCo will have 12 stations by the end of 2024. “This new facility is in line with the airport's zero carbon ambition. With the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner, its opening is eagerly awaited as it will enable the numerous taxi and private hire drivers to charge their vehicles during this busy period”, explains Jérôme Goulet, Development Project Manager at Paris-Le Bourget.

Attila was the name of the operation that took place landside at Paris-Orly on 15 January. The Parking & Access team within the Passenger Process Division came up with the initiative which entailed picking up all kinds of rubbish from the car parks and the road network. High numbers of employees got involved ahead of the Skytrax audit, which was carried out from 22 to 24 January. “This operation, the second of its kind, is part of an ongoing drive to improve the quality of service in the airport's car parks and at its access points. We plan to repeat it every six months”, explains Julien Bursztynowicz, Deputy Head of Access and Carrier Relations. Car Park Managers, Car Park Operations Assistants, Car Park Flow Coordinators, Passenger Process Managers… Representatives from every operational and functional division worked hard on this project, which saw almost one tonne of abandoned objects (cones, poles, barriers, etc.) collected in two hours.

2024, AN ENCOURAGING YEAR FOR FRENCH AIR TRANSPORT

The French National Federation of Aviation and its Trades (FNAM) has said that the outlook for French air transport in 2024 is “encouraging”. 2023 saw the airline sector recover 97% of its 2019 passenger numbers. FNAM forecasts “very buoyant international traffic”, despite announcing that domestic routes will “continue to suffer”.

SPAIN INTRODUCES A TRANSIT VISA REQUIREMENT FOR SENEGALESE TRAVELLERS

The Spanish Embassy in Senegal has announced that Senegalese nationals arriving at its airports will now require a transit visa. This declaration comes against the backdrop of a sharp rise in the number of asylum seekers stuck in dedicated reception areas. Police unions have stated that for several weeks now many Senegalese passport holders, supposedly on their way to Brazil, have sought asylum during a stopover in Madrid.

EASYJET REPORTS NARROWER LOSSES THAN EXPECTED

easyJet's first-quarter loss for the 2023-2024 financial year has been reduced to £126 million despite the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on the airline sector. The fall in the cost of jet fuel compared to the price surge experienced in 2022, coupled with the large number of bookings already received for next summer, mean that the British airline is optimistic about the months ahead.

BRUSSELS OPENS AN INVESTIGATION INTO LUFTHANSA'S TAKEOVER OF ITA

The European Commission has announced its opening of an in-depth investigation into the proposed takeover of Italian airline ITA Airways (successor to Alitalia) by German group Lufthansa, fearing a reduction in competition on certain routes. Brussels will have the option to prohibit the transaction or to authorise it if it considers sufficient guarantees have been provided. The European Commission has until 6 June 2024 to come to a decision.
