On 27 November, Caroline Blanchet, Marketing Director of Groupe ADP, was voted Marketing Personality of the Year at the Trophées Marketing B2C 2023 ceremony. The aim of this competition, organised since 2004 by Marketing magazine and E-marketing.fr, is to shine a light on the most impressive initiatives and players in marketing, while also encouraging exchanges between professionals.

RECONFIGURATION OF THE DROP-OFF AREA AT TERMINAL 2E

In order to improve access flow, the Customer Division (DCLS) and the teams at Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDGM and CDGU) have introduced a second traffic lane inside the drop-off area for Terminal 2E. “The two-lane system, which has already been trialled at Orly 4 and then at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2D, improves traffic flow by offering parallel parking on both the left- and right-hand sides”, explains Arnaud Gest, Project Manager at DCLS. “So drivers no longer need to stop and reverse into a space - it's a bit like the principle of a bus stop. Furthermore, if a vehicle happens to double-park, this configuration allows the traffic to keep moving and avoid any blockages.” Initially trialled as part of a test this summer, the system will be made permanent in summer 2024, as will the installation of a new gantry sign at the entrance to the area, and a low dividing wall at the exit for the more even distribution of traffic flows.

CLEARCDG, AN ACCELERATOR FOR THE DECARBONISATION OF AIRSIDE OPERATIONS

The CLEARCDG project encompasses a series of electrification operations at Paris-Charles de Gaulle with a total budget of €40 million, 30% of which will be subsidised by the European Commission. This is an important milestone for the airport in the context of the 2025 Pioneers roadmap. “The review of the airport's electric master plan carried out by ECP (Engineering & Capital Projects) has enabled us to identify all needs and uses up to 2030. The awarding of this grant means we will have an additional €12 million to help speed up the works between now and March 2026”, explains Pierre Abraham, Head of the Projects and Ownership Division. “371 electric charging stations will be installed to support the greening of ground handling equipment and vehicles, operations on manoeuvring areas and passenger bus transfers”, explains Eric Pivot, Head of Cross-functional Matters in the Airside Operations and Facilities Division. “The project also includes the roll-out of 59 Preconditioned Air Units (PCA) on contact and remote stands.” A consortium has been set up by Groupe ADP and four partners: Air France, Alyzia, GEH and Transdev/Flybus.

TOWARDS A REFORM OF THE EVOLUTION OF AIRPORT FINANCING

The French government has launched a review of the way in which France's major airports are financed. This reform, mentioned by Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate for Transport, at the annual congress of the Union of French Airports (UAF), is based on the existing single and double till systems. It could result in the creation of a hybrid model that allows managers to keep a portion of their commercial profits in safekeeping. This new system will be conditional on the conclusion of economic regulation agreements (ERA).

CHANGE OF INVESTORS AT HEATHROW AIRPORT

The Spanish group Ferrovial, which owns 25% of Heathrow Airport, has decided to sell its holding after 17 years of management. Saudi public investment fund FIP will acquire a 10% stake and French group Ardian is to acquire 15%, for a total of €2.7 billion. On completion of the transaction, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), which already owns 20% of the UK's leading hub, will become its largest shareholder alongside the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and a Chinese investment fund.

BRUSSELS SEEKS TO STRENGTHEN PASSENGER RIGHTS

The European Commission has set itself the ambitious objective of better protecting passengers and their rights against travel disruptions. To combat the hazards that cause inconvenience and expense to millions of travellers every year, across all modes of transport, Brussels is set to roll out a raft of flagship measures. Among other things, they will provide a better framework for the conditions of sale and refund of package holidays booked online, and strengthen citizens' rights.

PARIS METRO TICKET PRICES TO RISE SHARPLY NEXT SUMMER

Next summer, the price of a Paris metro ticket will almost double, rising from €2.10 to €4. A “fair price”, supported by Valérie Pécresse, President of the Ile-de-France transport authority IDFM, designed to finance the additional transport costs associated with Paris 2024. The creation of a “Paris 2024” pass, with a sliding scale of charges, will offer visitors access to the entire Paris region network. Holders of Navigo monthly or annual passes, Imagin'R passes or senior passes will not be affected by these increases.
