PARIS-ORLY RAISES AWARENESS OF DISABILITY ISSUES AMONG ITS SECURITY SERVICE PROVIDERS

The workshop held on 9 November at Orly 3 was a first step towards raising awareness among 400 Securitas officers by the end of January. Credit: Michel André for Groupe ADP.

Do I have your permission to carry out a pat-down search? Have you any sensitive areas I should be aware of? Workshops were recently organised by Paris-Orly management for the two security service providers, Securitas and Safesquare, and these were some of the key questions raised that should be asked to people with disabilities. This initiative is part of the drive to improve customer service for people with disabilities. “Looking after people with disabilities at the airport is not just the responsibility of the assistance service provider; it concerns all those involved in the passenger journey”, explains Nathalie Chailly (ORYA), Managing Director of the Passenger and Terminal Process at Paris-Orly. “We have opted to train staff from the airport community so they can raise awareness among their colleagues who encounter people with disabilities on a daily basis.” The aim of these workshops is to analyse the words, gestures and attitudes that are or are not compliant with Groupe ADP’s hospitality requirements. “Disability can make some people feel uncomfortable, but you have to concentrate on your tasks and get the information you need to carry them out properly”, advises Marie Couvreur (ORYA), Market Monitoring Assistant, who is in charge of running these workshops. “There's no ideal solution, but expressing your consideration by looking the disabled person in the eye is a good way to show you care!”

MAINTENANCE: BEST PRACTICES SHARED BY GROUPE ADP AND SNCF

Around twenty people from the Operations Division and SNCF Gares & Connexions took part in this discussion on maintenance issues. Credit: Éric Coupaye for Groupe ADP.

A couple of weeks ago, SNCF Gares & Connexions and the Operations Division (DGO) at Paris-Charles de Gaulle came together to discuss maintenance issues. A number of topics were addressed in various round tables, including energy management, electricity production and distribution, maintenance standards, positioning of expert teams, regulatory checks, etc. It was also an opportunity for SNCF to present its “Smart Station” project, a tangible shift towards digitally connected stations, which was launched in June 2020 to establish the centralised supervision of stations and improve the availability of facilities. “Together we came up with the possibility of creating a maintenance club between infrastructure managers” , explains Benoist Cardinal, Head of Maintenance Engineering (DGOT).

PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE:
RECONFIGURATION OF THE MN MODULE

De-cluttering the MN module is a collective project that has required constant project-mode work between multiple divisions. Credit: Michel André for Groupe ADP.

Work is continuing on the MN module development project at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Following an initial phase in 2020, phase two is now underway to reconfigure the spaces on the 4 levels of the interchange module, thanks to close cooperation between Groupe ADP and Gares & Connexions, a subsidiary of SNCF Réseau. “The aim of this project, supported at the highest level by both companies, is to improve air-rail intermodality and quality of service. 15 million passengers use the multimodal hub every year. Passenger numbers are set to double over the next 15 years with the increase in rail services, thanks in particular to the arrival of the CDG Express (2027), the Roissy-Picardie link (end of 2027), Line 17 of the Grand Paris Express (2030) and the increase in TGV traffic” , highlights Xavier Dubrac, Director of Technical and Engineering Rail Projects for ECP (Engineering & Capital Projects). The aim of this work is to improve flow within the spaces and to make the routes clearer, with the ultimate goal of making rail-air intermodality the obvious choice. “The strength of this ECP-led project lies in the quality of exchanges with the airport's various entities, thus ensuring its success”, adds Frédérique Héril-Fantoni, Project Coordinator. Groupe ADP intends to complete the project in June 2024.

PARIS 2024 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES:
OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

Sport is on everyone’s mind! Following the success of the Rugby World Cup, a report by Euromonitor International has estimated that the 15 million spectators expected to attend Paris 2024 will spend €4 billion on tourism, in addition to that spent by three million "traditional" visitors. What's more, according to the same report, the Games are expected to attract no fewer than 4 billion viewers worldwide over their entire duration. Sporting competitions are a significant source of opportunities and challenges for the French tourism industry, in which Groupe ADP, official partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is a key player. The event will see Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports become two of the main ports of entry for the 15,000 athletes and 60,000 accredited guests, as well as approximately 115,000 oversized baggage items.

OLGA, TWO YEARS ON

Around thirty employees were present airside to learn more about the issues linked to the trials being carried out as part of the European Olga project. Credit: Yannaël Billard for Groupe ADP.

Olga is two years old. This European project, launched in October 2021 for a 5-year period, unites 58 partners around four airports: Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Milan-Malpensa (Italy), Cluj (Romania) and Zagreb (Croatia). It is a massive contributor to Groupe ADP’s environmental transition. For example, the operational and technical efficiency of sweeper-degreasers converted to biodiesel was tested over several months, and an air quality station installed near the north runway pair measures and assesses unregulated pollutants. The TaxiBot is the third trial to be carried out airside. This device, capable of towing an aircraft (with engines off) from the taxiways to the runway threshold, should significantly reduce aircraft fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
“Around thirty projects are being launched at Paris-Charles de Gaulle on a wide range of themes including energy efficiency, the circular economy, and artificial intelligence at the aircraft stand”, explains Virginie Pasquier, Olga Project Coordinator.

A delegation from Groupe ADP travelled to Dubai in the middle of November to take part in the 153rd IATA (International Air Transport Association) conference on flight slots. This event brings together the major players in the air transport industry. At the heart of the discussions was a joint presentation from the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC), the French Air Navigation Services and Groupe ADP on the subjects of slot coordination and traffic management in the run-up to the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This conference is held regularly in locations around the world and is an important opportunity for airlines to meet to optimise their slots, while looking at new opportunities for route and network growth.

In July, French group Safran announced its intention to acquire the actuation and flight control activities of US company Collins Aerospace, based in Italy, for $1.8 billion. LINE 19 PROJECT FOR THE ÎLE-DE-FRANCE REGION

On 21 November, Valérie Pécresse, President of the regional council of Île-de-France, officially launched the Metro Line 19 project, which is intended to link La Défense with the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport area, mainly serving the Val-d'Oise department. The line is scheduled to open in or around 2040. The project involves the construction of nine to eleven stations between Nanterre-La Folie and the Gonesse triangle, requiring 25 to 30 km of track, almost entirely underground, and will feature a new fully automated train system.
