RYADH SALLEM: A CONFERENCE
FOR INCLUSION

“Bring your differences, share your similarities and don't forget to be happy.” These were the simple words spoken by Ryadh Sallem at a meeting with Groupe ADP employees at Paris-Charles de Gaulle on 16 November. An advocate for fraternity and peaceful co-existence, this top-level athlete and serial entrepreneur will be competing in his seventh Paralympic Games in August next year, in Paris with the French wheelchair rugby team. “Nobody is required to achieve the impossible”; Ryadh has long made this adage his own, never ceasing to overcome every obstacle in his path as a person with a disability, born without hands and feet. “For me, sport was an escape, one of the few worlds where you have the right to fail. But failure prepares us for victory”, explained Ryadh, who shared his vision of a more inclusive society, while raising some real questions: when will we stop treating disability as an exception to the rule? And what about mental accessibility? Mobility, universal accessibility, the universal values of sport, the expectations and challenges of Paris 2024 - these were just some of the topics covered at the conference.

CAR PARK MYSTERY SHOPPERS
TO IMPROVE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The Customer Division’s Parking and Mobility teams have arranged for mystery shoppers to visit the car parks and drop-off areas. Credit: Antoine Doyen and Cécile Chabert for Groupe ADP.

Since last May, all of the terminal car parks at Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle have been subject to monthly mystery shopper visits. Whether they are outside the terminals or far away, a total of 16 car parks and a selection of 4 drop-off areas are being inspected every month by teams from research company BVA. Using a variety of scenarios and a questionnaire, the mystery shoppers visit the car parks and drop-off areas anonymously to assess the customer experience. During these visits, they evaluate aspects including the layout, signage, ease of parking, intercom systems, the overall atmosphere, cleanliness and safety, electric charging stations, etc. “These visits enable us to assess any areas of non-compliance and to address them as quickly as possible, in order to increase customer satisfaction”, explains Minh Chau Phan Ngoc, Product Manager within the Customer Division’s Parking and Mobility Unit.

It was also an opportunity for Xavier Hürstel, Chief Development Officer for Groupe ADP, to take part in the round table discussion on “What does the future hold for the airport sector?” “It was a fascinating discussion in which I stressed the essential role of innovation for airports, echoing the powerful message of Innovate or Die. MINIMUM SERVICE OBLIGATION FOR AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS

A bill to organise air traffic control services in the event of industrial action has just been passed by Parliament. As a result, air traffic control staff wishing to take part in strike action will have to individually declare as such 48 hours in advance, an obligation they were not subject to until now. The aim of this new legislation imposed upon public service employees is to ensure an “appropriate minimum service in all circumstances”, together with the implementation of “measures proportionate” to the needs of the sector in the event of a strike.

VOLOTEA OPENS A BASE IN BREST, BEATING AIR FRANCE

With 20 destinations departing from Brest-Guipavas, including 13 new routes by the beginning of 2024, Volotéa has made the airport in Brittany its 9th French base. This makes it the leader on routes between regional and national cities, ahead of Air France. This news represents a new lease of life for Brest Airport, which suffered a dramatic fall in passenger numbers following the pandemic, the closure by Air France of its Paris-Orly route, and then the withdrawal of Chalair, the Normandy-based airline that had taken over this route which is a vital contributor to the regional economy.

DUBAI PREPARES TO REPLACE ITS AIRPORT

Dubai is continuing the expansion of a second airport to replace its current hub and cater to increasing passenger traffic in just a few years' time. “The construction work at Maktoum International Airport, or Dubai World Central (DWC), is on track” , said Paul Griffiths, Chairman and CEO of Dubai Airports, speaking at the Dubai Airshow. Located on the outskirts of the city, it has been handling a small proportion of the Emirate's air traffic since 2010.
