SPOTLIGHT ON WHEELCHAIR RUGBY

Have you heard of wheelchair rugby? This Paralympic sport, which pits two teams of four players against each other, is a composite of several disciplines (wheelchair basketball, hockey and American football). Paris hosted the first International Wheelchair Rugby Cup from 18 to 22 October, culminating in a final played at the Accor Arena. This exceptional event, the final of which was open to Groupe ADP employees, was organised to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. It has helped to raise awareness of this highly physical sport. It was also an opportunity for Groupe ADP to demonstrate the assistance and accessibility arrangements in place to welcome arriving and departing para athletes under the best conditions, in particular by making their personal wheelchairs available, and facilitating pick-ups and drop-offs outside the Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle terminals. An instructive learning experience in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

PARIS-ORLY: A FIRST PARK FOR OUR FAITHFUL COMPANIONS

This is a first! A dog park has just opened outside Orly 3, in the public area near the continuum. This project was managed by teams from the Passenger Process Division (ORYA) and the Technical Process and Baggage Division (ORYE). With a surface area of almost 70 sq.m, the dedicated area for our furry friends includes a bench and a fountain. A double-width entrance gate and paths more than one metre wide ensure disability-friendly access to the park. Particular care was also taken when selecting the ground surface. The choice was made to use stabilised soil which provides a sandy, permeable surface and therefore, unlike tarmac, does not burn dogs' paws in hot weather. Two other projects, in the restricted area of Orly 4 (F gates) and Orly 2 (gate C), are currently under review for execution during 2024.

Tatamo Rakotozafy, Head of Aeronautical Activities at Ravinala Airports Madagascar, was presented with the Rising Star Award at the Routes World 2023 event held in Istanbul from 15 to 17 October. This award recognises her commitment to improving the air connectivity of Antananarivo and Nosy Bé airports, operated by Ravinala Airports. She has played a pivotal role in lobbying government authorities to facilitate the creation of new routes and the reopening of borders after the pandemic. She also helped set up the first financial incentive programme for the country’s airports.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL FORUM DES ACHATS INCLUSIFS

On 16 October, the Collectif des entreprises pour une économie plus inclusive, of which Groupe ADP is a member, brought together more than 350 buyers and 50 inclusive suppliers at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris for its second Forum des achats inclusifs (Inclusive Procurement Forum). This event is an opportunity for each key account to present a panel of its inclusive suppliers to its peers in order to encourage the development of this type of procurement and the professional integration of people who are having difficulty finding employment as a result of a disability or socio-economic problems. The first forum enabled Groupe ADP buyers to meet the company “Café joyeux”, now a supplier of the business. This year, the 40 members of the Collectif have further strengthened their commitment by signing a manifesto setting a collective target of over 30% of procurement to be inclusive, representing €200 million, by 2025.

AN ESCAPE GAME TO PREVENT SCREEN-WORK-RELATED DISORDERS

An escape game to prevent screen-work-related disorders took place in a lorry set up in the car parks at Paris-Charles de Gaulle head office and Askia at Paris-Orly. Credit: Samia Benslimane for Groupe ADP.

In September, nearly 80 Groupe ADP employees successfully navigated the traps and solved the puzzles of an original escape game, called “Les secrets du Docteur Nacre”. Organised by the Occupational Risks Prevention Department and designed by osteopaths, the aim of this immersive game was to treat a fictional character suffering from musculoskeletal problems. Employees were thus able to familiarise themselves with the correct habits and postures to adopt when using a screen. They also learned about the principles of workstation ergonomics. This invaluable advice will help them to design their workspace more effectively and look after their physical health. An original and educational approach appreciated by the participants.

LES ACTUALITES DU MONDE AEROPORTUAIRE
LES ACTUALITES DU MONDE AEROPORTUAIRE

AIR FRANCE TO LEAVE PARIS-ORLY

After 70 years at Paris-Orly, all Air France flights - with the exception of Air Corsica flights - are to be transferred to Paris-Charles de Gaulle by summer 2026. This includes all “Navette” flights to Marseille, Toulouse and Nice, as well as those to the French overseas departments of Antilles, Réunion and French Guiana. This move is so that Air France can focus on its Paris-Charles de Gaulle hub, where the supply of long-haul flights makes short-haul flights more profitable. The group will nevertheless maintain a presence at Paris-Orly, via its subsidiary Transavia France which will take over the routes to and from Marseille, Toulouse and Nice.

RER B: CURBING ITS DECLINE

île-de-France Mobilités, SNCF and RATP have announced measures to limit the decreasing punctuality of the RER B service, without waiting for the major upgrade planned for between now and 2031. This includes €5 billion of investment, half of which in new trains. The automation of lines B and D was also agreed, promising improved punctuality. Another area for improvement involves the creation of a single SNCF/RATP “command centre” for lines B and D within a year.

ABU DHABI'S NEW TERMINAL TO OPEN ON 1 NOVEMBER

Abu Dhabi International Airport in the United Arab Emirates will open its new terminal to the public on 1 November. Terminal A will double the current capacity of the airport, taking it to 45 million passengers a year. It is three times the size of the old terminal and offers 117 destinations worldwide. Covering 742,000 sq.m, Terminal A is one of the largest airport terminals in the world.

EASYJET EXPANDS ITS FLEET WITH AIRBUS

Following a record summer, easyJet is to sign a firm order for 157 Airbus aircraft from the A320neo family and secure purchase rights for a further 100 or so aircraft. The plan is to integrate 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2034. This announcement comes at a time when the airline has posted very positive results for its summer season, with passenger numbers up by 8% in the third quarter.
