PARIS-ORLY LAUNCHES ITS BICYCLE PLAN

A bicycle plan was presented on 21 September by Edward Arkwright, Deputy CEO, and Justine Coutard, Managing Director of Paris-Orly Airport. “PARIS-ORLY BY CYCLE 2030” will see the construction of 6 km of continuous, safe and illuminated cycle paths throughout the airport by 2030, as well as improved links with the surrounding areas. This plan is part of Paris-Orly's decarbonisation strategy, which involves the development of soft mobility and a modal shift. “41% of the airport’s ground-based CO2 emissions are linked to land access” , emphasises Justine Coutard. “So we want to encourage people to cycle to and from work. In particular we are targeting staff who live within a 10 km radius of the airport.” The plan also includes the installation of more than 650 cycle racks, secure bike parks, showers and lockers. Throughout the day, workshops and events gave employees and local residents the opportunity to have their bikes repaired, learn about existing schemes and have a bite to eat in a friendly atmosphere.

DROP-OFF POINTS: TICKETLESS AUTOMATIC EXIT

In order to improve access flow, the Customer Division, with support from the Systems teams in the Networks and Access Division at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and the Technical Process and Baggage Division at Paris-Orly, has introduced ticketless automatic exits in the drop-off areas. Drivers who pass through the drop-off point in under 10 minutes (currently 95% of drivers) can now exit without inserting a ticket into the machine. “Thanks to the automatic number plate reader (ANPR) technology and the reliability of new cameras, the vast majority of our customers will no longer need to insert their ticket at the exit barrier, and will therefore pass through in less than 5 seconds instead of the current average of 9 seconds. Multiplied by the volume, this represents a considerable gain in terms of fluidity at our airports, as well as an improved customer experience”, explains Jérôme Lamour, Head of the Systems and Equipment Department within the Customer Division. The automatic exit system has been available at all terminal drop-off points since this summer. This move is part of the ongoing plan to improve drop-off points and improve access flow.
