NEW CARGO HUB DELIVERED IN CARGO CITY

MIDI is the code name of the new 12,600 sq.m cargo hub delivered by Groupe ADP to Kuehne + Nagel. Following a year of construction work, this cross-border building will be commissioned in October, offering a dedicated area for pharmaceutical products, the traditional core business of the Swiss logistics operator. This will double the processing capacity of its Paris hub. Located in the heart of Cargo City at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Europe's largest cargo airport, this ultra-modern hub meets the highest environmental standards (Breeam Very Good): it is the second building in Cargo City to be equipped with solar panels on its roof. Groupe ADP is not only the owner and developer of the land, but it has also invested in this real estate project to the tune of nearly €15 million.

LA FLÂNEUSE, A MOBILITY SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE

This accessibility experiment at Orly 4 would not have been possible without the help of the start-up E-Hé and GSF, in charge of recycling the chairs, as well as the Paris-Orly operational teams. Credit: Franck Bindefeld for Groupe ADP.

An airport first in terms of accessibility. At Paris-Orly, 20 self-service anti-fatigue chairs have been made available to passengers in Orly 4. This trial, nicknamed "la Flâneuse” [the wanderer], is the result of a collaboration between the start-up E-Hé, the Innovation Division, Paris-Orly management, ECP (Engineering & Capital Projects) and the Operations Division. Transport your baggage, give your children somewhere to sit, lean back, walk around - it's all possible thanks to this multifunctional chair which constitutes a new form of mobility. “This service requires no assistance. It is designed for all types of passenger, whether disabled or with reduced mobility, parents with children, pregnant women, the elderly or people with health problems”, explain Laetitia Grès, Head of the Physical Passenger Experience, and Pierre Bocandé, Innovation Project Manager. The aim of this solution, which has been tested in the duty-free area for the past six months, is to improve hospitality in our terminals whilst increasing passenger autonomy and reducing the need for assistance in the boarding area.

LAUNCH OF THE GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
PROJECT AT PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE

Achieving carbon neutrality for internal emissions by 2035 at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport is one of the commitments set out by Groupe ADP in its "2025 Pioneers" roadmap. Because heat production is the main source of the airport's internal CO2 emissions (72% in 2019), ECP (Engineering and Capital Projects) launched preparatory work for a geothermal energy project at the Thermo-Electric Refrigeration Plant (CTFE or Centrale Thermo Frigo Électrique in French) in early July. Phase 1 will consist of the creation of a 4,800 sq.m platform that will house two boreholes (one geothermal water production borehole at 71°C and one reinjection borehole at around 45°C). Phase 2 will involve the construction of a 470 sq.m geothermal energy industrial building within the CTFE. “This commissioning, scheduled for 2026, will generate 80 GWh/year, or 32% of the airport's heating needs for its buildings and facilities”, explains Marc Donnart, ECP Project Manager, “and reduce our internal CO2 emissions by more than 35%.”

WORK ON RUNWAY 1 AT PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE: A SUSTAINABLE PROJECT

Refurbishment work will be carried out over the next 4 months on runway 1. Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

Runway 1 at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport will be closed until 6 November for refurbishment, during which time aircraft will use runway 3 of the northern runway pair. This 16-week project will involve the partial repair of runway 1 and the complete refurbishment of 4 taxiways, including an upgrade of their lighting equipment. New radio navigation equipment (ILS-Instrument Landing System) will also be implemented. This site has been selected by OLGA (hOListic & Green Airport) as part of the European Green Deal as a pilot project to improve the carbon footprint of our worksites. Based on the EN ISO 14001 standard, it has been subject to a carbon assessment at every stage of the design process, supplier and subcontractor audits, and innovative measures such as limiting the number of lorries running on sustainable fuel, recycling 99% of waste generated and reducing dust emissions.

HYDERABAD SPEEDS UP ITS TRANSITION TO GREEN ENERGY

At the end of 2022, Hyderabad International Airport was served by 27 airlines, including Air India, Indigo and 5 cargo airlines, with a total of 64 direct destinations in India and 17 worldwide. Credit: GMR Airports for Groupe ADP.

Hyderabad International Airport in India, operated by GMR Airports, a subsidiary of Groupe ADP, has announced its full transition to 100% sustainable green energy for all of the energy needs of the airport and its surrounding ecosystem. The airport has teamed up with utility company TSSPDCL to continue operating using renewable energy. This was made possible thanks to the combination of a 10 MWp (Megawatt peak) on-site solar power plant and the green energy supplied by TSSPDCL. This new stage in the airport's decarbonisation strategy will result in roughly 9,300 fewer tonnes of carbon dioxide being emitted each year.
