PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE: AN INTENSE AND SUCCESSFUL SUMMER AT THE BORDER

The City One and Otessa welcome staff played a key role this summer alongside Groupe ADP's operational teams, as did the collaboration with Border Police management, to improve the customer experience at the border. Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

The collective work carried out over the last few months has been unanimously praised by all the airlines, and we should all be very proud.” A message of encouragement and thanks from Valérie Senentz, Terminals Director at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, at the third borders seminar on 28 September. The event was attended by Renaud Duplay, Deputy Managing Director of the Airport, and Julien Gentile, Head of Paris Airports for the DPAF (Border Police). For all those who work at the border, this seminar provided an opportunity to learn lessons from the summer season and appreciate the fruits of the cooperative work carried out to improve fluidity and its real-time management in the border control areas. The extension of the eligibility criteria for the Parafe gates and the recruitment of contract workers within DPAF have largely contributed to the excellent performance in terms of waiting times, as has the reorganisation of the passenger experience and the additional supervision as part of the hospitality action plan, with the introduction of hospitality officers by our welcome service providers. “We've been blown away by the results achieved this summer at the border and are very pleased with this positive development”, concluded Cécile Aerdeman, Police Commissioner for the DPAF.

RUGBY WORLD CUP: TRY CONVERSION FOR THE PARIS AIRPORTS

It’s nearly a month since the tenth Rugby World Cup kicked off in France, and Groupe ADP's airports have been particularly busy welcoming French and foreign supporters, celebrities and players. Some 1.8 million passengers have passed through Paris-Orly, mainly in Orly 3, since 8 September. The teams were granted a special welcome by the Prefecture, State services, Groupe ADP and France 2023. The Welsh team, for instance, was met directly by a bus airside at Paris-Orly Airport on 17 September. Paris-Charles de Gaulle handled approximately thirty flights to and from the Emerald Isle, not including scheduled flights, to coincide with the match between Ireland and South Africa: around 5,000 Irish supporters were greeted in Arrivals and Departures between 21 and 24 September. At Paris-Le Bourget, the airport used by numerous VIPs, aircraft movements increased by 50% on 8 September, the day of the opening match between France and New Zealand. This represents growth of 10% over the weekend compared with the same period in 2022.

BIODIVERSITY AT TOUSSUS-LE-NOBLE!

This is a first! On 25 September, around thirty employees from Groupe ADP's biodiversity network attended the first seminar on biodiversity at the Toussus-le-Noble general aviation airfield in the Yvelines department. On the agenda were a presentation of the company's work with the Aéro Biodiversité association, an introduction to the wealth of fauna and flora in the various habitats around the airport (aeronautical meadows, ponds, etc.) and numerous exchanges with the ecologists and botanists present. Fresque de la Biodiversité® workshops were an opportunity to discuss together the causes and consequences of the collapse of biodiversity, as well as the solutions! A fundamental day for the biodiversity network, rich in discoveries and demonstrating the company's commitment to preserving the living heritage of our airports. This event was organised by the Sustainable Development and Public Affairs Division (DDDE).

The 18th Pan American Games will be held in Santiago de Chile from 19 October to 5 November 2023. Taking place every four years, this is the largest multi-disciplinary sporting event in the Americas. The teams at Arturo-Merino-Benítez International Airport, managed by Nuevo Paduhuel, are working closely with the public services, airlines and the Pan American Olympic Committee to define processes for its organisation, signage, accessibility and transport. Nearly 10,000 athletes and their delegations will be taking part in the games, which feature 39 different sports and 61 disciplines. This will be a major operational challenge for the airport, involving the processing of over 60,000 items of baggage and oversized equipment including javelins, kayaks and poles. 200 volunteers have been recruited for the occasion. A delegation from Groupe ADP will also be on site as official volunteers for Santiago 2023, to observe the arrivals, departures and early check-in days at the Olympic Village, as many of these operations are similar to our upcoming challenges related to Paris 2024.

ELECTRIC TOUR, ZERO-EMISSION AND SILENT AVIATION BECOME A REALITY

The Electric Tour took place in the Paris region from 19 to 23 September. An original tour of nine Groupe ADP airfields using three 100% electric aircraft made by Slovenian manufacturer Pipistrel. The aim of this operation, co-organised by Groupe ADP and the Fédération Française de l'Aéronautique (FFA), was to accelerate the development of electric aviation and promote sustainable aviation among local residents and the aviation community. “Groupe ADP believes in electric aviation. Its benefits, particularly for local residents, are real and immediate: no impact on air quality, zero CO2 emissions and ten times less noise than a combustion engine-powered aircraft”, highlights Amélie Lummaux, Deputy Managing Director of Sustainable Development and Projects. Pipistrel's Velis Electro is being increasingly used for pilot training, and is the only certified electric aircraft in the world so far. It has a range of 50 minutes, can carry two passengers at a speed of 160 km/h and charges in under 60 minutes.

Four teams competed against each other, of which one from Paris-Charles de Gaulle, one from Paris-Orly, an “Other divisions” team, and one from the State services. “The idea was to bring together the stakeholders of the Paris airports’ community in a spirit of conviviality to forge relationships”, explained Bastien Bernard, from the Paris-Charles de Gaulle management team, and Éric Namigandet-Tenguere, secretary of the ESC. “We intend to make this an annual event.” The Paris-Orly team, led by captain Aziz Boulagdou (ORYE), beat the Paris-Charles de Gaulle team in the final to claim the trophy. The Horizons Cup was presented by the Chairman and CEO of Groupe ADP, Augustin de Romanet, in the presence of Sydney Govou, former international and Olympique Lyonnais football player.
