According to a study carried out by the Paris Tourist Office, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games have so far generated a 115.5% increase (compared with 2023) in flight bookings to the French capital for the period between 26 July and 11 August 2024. The same study reveals that of the 11 million visitors expected for the Olympic Games alone, 13%, or 1.5 million people, will travel from abroad, including 854,000 from Europe and 65,000 from long-haul destinations. In terms of French visitors, there will be more from the Paris region (46%) than from the provinces (40%).

ALTERNATIVE CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AT TERMINAL 2E

A trial is underway at Paris-Charles de Gaulle’s Terminal 2E to improve hospitality for people with disabilities. “The challenge is to improve our care of people with disabilities by giving them the necessary time to prepare themselves before going through security, while at the same time making it easier for other passengers to understand the priority treatment given to them and ensuring a smooth flow at the security checkpoints”, explains Arthur Waghemacker and Anne Bonneton, from the Public Safety and Security Department in the Terminals Division. This new process is available on certain automated lines equipped with specific and adapted facilities. “This initiative demonstrates Groupe ADP's commitment to considering the needs of people with disabilities by modifying its processes”, adds Matthias Gaytté, Head of PRM Journeys and Processes. If the trial is a success it could be extended, as is currently the case in Terminal BD.

For more than 10 years now, the Société des Grands Projets (SGP) has been working on Line 17 of the Grand Paris Express, the new 26.5-km metro line between the future Saint-Denis-Pleyel and Le Mesnil-Amelot stations. A section of the track will pass under the runways at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, and a station will be built in Terminal 2. A variety of the airport’s divisions (Airside Operations & Facilities, Operations, Networks and Access) are working with SGP under the aegis of the Engineering and Capital Projects Division, whose project management expertise has been called upon. In mid-January, following major preparatory work to make the site accessible and workable, Groupe ADP opened up the first areas to SGP, enabling work to begin. In addition, a road access security checkpoint exclusively for construction vehicles has been built. Line 17, the southern areas of which are already under construction, will link the airport to Saint-Denis by 2030.

MISSING BOLTS THE CAUSE OF BOEING 737 MAX 9 INCIDENT

EMIRATES SEES A GRADUAL DECLINE IN BOEING'S PERFORMANCE

Tim Clark, President of Dubai-based airline Emirates and therefore a major Boeing customer, has said that Boeing is in the “last chance saloon”, claiming to have seen a progressive decline in its performance and calling on the manufacturer to "do better". Tim Clark also said that he would be sending his own engineers to monitor Boeing's production lines and manufacturing processes. “They have got to instil this safety culture which is second to none”, he added.

DID BREXIT BOOST TRAFFIC AT HEATHROW AIRPORT IN 2023?

Welcoming 79.2 million passengers last year, London Heathrow Airport recorded remarkable growth of 28.5%. According to ACI Europe rankings, the London hub has regained its position as European leader, ahead of Istanbul (17.9%) and Paris (18.3%). The 21% increase in its international traffic compared with 2022 would even suggest that Brexit has had a positive effect on its growth.
