A groundbreaking low-carbon ground handling operation took place on 12 April in the presence of Deputy CEO Edward Arkwright. A Dassault Falcon Service Falcon 900EX was processed using GPU (Ground Power Unit) equipment and 100% electric vehicles provided by AES. It was refuelled by an electric truck from Total Energies with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), composed of 30% biofuel and 70% kerosene. Nearly 10,000 litres of SAF are supplied daily to Paris-Le Bourget Airport. “At the moment, 30% of the airport's fleet of vehicles are electric. We are aiming for 100% by 2025” , explains Sébastien Couturier, the airport's director. “By using fully electric vehicles, we can reduce carbon emissions on ground operations by 40%.” The next step is the implementation of green taxiing.

The day ended with a visit to the Terminal 1 connecting building and boarding area, in the company of the architects in charge of the refurbishment project.

The first conference on the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games was held last week at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. The event was hosted by Pascal Gentil (DDDS), Project Manager for the Sustainable Development and Public Affairs Division, and his guest Denis Masseglia, former President of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee and former rowing champion. It was an opportunity to discuss the involvement of Groupe ADP, official partner of the Games, as well as the origin and success of the Paris 2024 bid, the power and legacy of Olympism, not to mention the challenges of the volunteer scheme and the virtues of sport. “The Games haven’t been held here for 100 years” , said Denis Masseglia, “so this is a rare and invaluable opportunity. It's going to be an exceptional event, let's make the most of it!” Pascal Gentil, who has competed in two Olympic Games, was also one of the ambassadors for the Paris 2024 bid: “Today, I am proud to be a Groupe ADP ambassador” , said the double Olympic medallist in taekwondo.

Refurbishment work has begun at Santiago de Chile’s domestic terminal (T1). An event was held on 12 April at Arturo Merino Benitez Airport in the presence of Chilean President Gabriel Boric and Fernando Echegaray, Chief Operations Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, representing Groupe ADP as co-manager of the concession with Vinci within the Nuevo Pudahuel consortium. This project, which represents an investment of $60 million, will help harmonise the service standards of the domestic terminal, which has been in operation since 1994, with that of the international terminal (T2), which opened in early 2022. Once the work has been completed in 2025, this refurbishment will see smart technologies used in T1 and its 15,700 sq.m extension, as well as the addition of 8 boarding bridge walkways to enable it to accommodate more aircraft simultaneously. In 2022, domestic traffic accounted for more than 62% of the Chilean airport's total traffic (18.7 million passengers).

Johan Lundgren, the airline’s CEO, has said that he is “committed to keeping air travel accessible to as many people as possible, against the backdrop of the challenges posed by the need to decarbonise the sector” and, without ruling it out, believes that “his company does not need to acquire competitors to implement its strategy.”

Air France will sell seats as part of an interline agreement, which will evolve into a code share by the end of the year.

PRIVATE JET TRAVEL DOWN SINCE SEPTEMBER

Threatened with restrictions and over-taxation, business aviation has seen a 10% drop in activity over the last six months, compared to the same period a year earlier. The sector had seen an upturn during the two years of the pandemic “with the arrival of a leisure clientèle that we didn't have before”, explains Bertrand d'Yvoire, President of the EBAA (European Business Aviation Association). Since then, however, passengers have returned to scheduled airlines as flights have resumed and destinations have reopened.

The group's Travel Retail business, which owns shops in railway stations and airports, notably the Relay brand and Duty Free shops, grew by more than 50% over the period, exceeding €1 billion.
