FIRST POSITIVE RESULTS OF THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY PLAN

The energy efficiency plan initiated in November 2022 has reduced our electricity consumption by 7%. Credit: Adobe Stock.

The energy efficiency plan launched in the autumn of 2022, combined with the energy efficiency measures that have been in place for some time now, helped achieve remarkable results in terms of controlling our energy consumption last year (down 7% for electricity and down 31% for heating compared to 2019). The need for energy efficiency is not going anywhere. Groupe ADP therefore intends to maintain these good results over the long term, thanks to the effectiveness of our renewable energy production and the thermal inertia of our buildings. In spring, milder outdoor conditions provide an opportunity to significantly reduce our heating consumption, whilst maintaining a temperature of 19°C in our premises. A new communication will be sent to you in a few weeks’ time in preparation for the summer season with, once again, major challenges in terms of reducing our electricity consumption through the strict control of our air-conditioning temperatures.

TERMINAL 2D FULLY REOPENS
AT PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE

With a view to its overall return to service on 18 April, Terminal 2D was the subject of an ORAT process, led by the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Ownership Division and Abdelhalim Bouterfas (CDGM) and Victoria Granger, graduate, in particular. Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

After three years of work, the first major phase in the renovation of Terminal 2D has been completed with the delivery of the standard 3 baggage sorting system and its 50 check-in desks, which have been completely refurbished. The 2BD building is now operating at full capacity for the first time, with 100 check-in desks open and the aircraft stands and boarding area operational since June 2021. Various phases of work have been carried out since the end of 2020, some of which were led by the Terminals Division (CDG9) for the boarding lounge facilities and smart technology operations, and ECP (Engineering & Capital Projects) and the Baggage Division (CDGB) for the sorting system. Half of the 2D check-in desks were able to open in the summer of 2022 to accommodate traffic until Terminal 1 opened in December. The newly configured 2D drop-off point is also operational. With the transfer from T1 of Air Canada and Air Algérie, 25 airlines will now operate from the 2BD building.

GROUPE ADP SEMINAR - BORDER POLICE AT PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE

During this seminar, working groups were set up to reflect on the implementation of solutions for the management of the border control area this summer. Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

On 12 April, the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Terminals Division held an event to discuss and work together with the "border" community for the upcoming summer season in the context of a strong recovery in traffic. A time of sharing in the presence of Edward Arkwright, Deputy CEO of Groupe ADP, Régis Lacote, Managing Director of Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, Julien Gentile, Head of Paris Airports for the DPAF (Border Police), and other airport community partners. All stakeholders in the passenger journey were able to present their respective challenges and constraints through round table discussions and collaborative workshops, the aim being to improve fluidity and its real-time management in the border control areas. “Groupe ADP has high expectations in terms of hospitality. The efforts made at the border are beginning to bear fruit. We are going to win this battle and that’s thanks to you”, said Edward Arkwright. “It is through these kinds of collaborative sessions, this freedom of speech and proposal, that we will improve the day-to-day experience of our customers”, concluded Régis Lacote. See you again for the next seminar before the summer.

On 11 April, the first official ENAC Alumni* event, sponsored by Groupe ADP, took place at Paris-Orly. A round table discussion on the theme of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), the first pillar of decarbonisation which will account for at least 50% of decarbonisation efforts by 2050, was attended by several specialists on the subject. This round table highlighted the links between ENAC and Groupe ADP and shared the challenges faced by the airport industry and the academic world in supporting the future of aviation.

At the beginning of April, a hundred or so young people from the commune of Blanc-Mesnil had the chance to attend a taekwondo demonstration in the presence of Pascal Gentil, as part of a session organised by the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Environmental Resource Centre, on the occasion of the 7th edition of Olympic and Paralympic Week (SOP). INTERNATIONAL
LA CITATION

AMMAN: NORMAN FOSTER’S TERMINAL IS TEN YEARS OLD

Queen Alia International Airport is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its terminal. A terminal designed by architect Norman Foster and inaugurated by King Abdullah II in March 2013. With a surface area of 70,000 sq.m, it has two boarding piers and increased the airport's capacity from 4 to 12 million passengers. Its modular design resonates with local culture, taking inspiration from Bedouin tents to create a canopy of domes. The insulating quality of the concrete keeps the building cool during the day and retains heat at night, thus reducing energy consumption. In 2022, Amman welcomed more than 7.8 million passengers (+71.9% compared to 2021) thanks to the arrival of 7 new airlines. In March 2023, the Airport Council International (ACI) ranked it best airport in its category (between 5 and 15 million passengers) in the Middle East for the fifth time, based on the results of the 2022 ASQ survey.

AIR FRANCE UNVEILS ITS SUMMER 2023
FLIGHT SCHEDULE

In the context of high demand, and with the final travel restrictions now lifted, Air France is back on track with its 2019 network and schedule. On the short and medium-haul network, Air France will offer up to 650 flights a day to and from 106 destinations. In addition to its usual schedule, the airline will be offering 66 seasonal routes in France and Europe, departing from Paris and French regional airports.

A RECORD ORDER
FOR ICELANDAIR

While American aircraft have comprised the majority of its fleet for the past 25 years, the Icelandic airline has selected the A321 XLR to replace its Boeing 757s. It has signed a memorandum of understanding with the European carrier for the acquisition of 13 A321 XLRs, with purchase rights for a further 12 aircraft. The first aircraft will be delivered in 2029. According to the airline, Boeing is currently unable to offer an aircraft capable of replacing its 757s, namely a single-aisle, long-haul aircraft with approximately 200 seats.

UK AIR TRAFFIC NEARS PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS

Over 224 million passengers passed through the UK’s airports in 2022, representing 75% of 2019 levels. With almost eight million passengers, Bristol Airport was closest to its pre-pandemic levels at 89% of 2019 figures, closely followed by London Stansted at 83%.

A BUSY SUMMER IN EUROPEAN SKIES

Although European air traffic is not 100% back to its pre-crisis levels, mainly due to the conflict in Ukraine, the strength of its recovery is not waning. This month, flight numbers are up 12% compared to April 2022, and the flight schedules filed with Eurocontrol for this summer reflect an average increase of 15% in supply. Traffic in European skies is expected to increase from 9.2 million flights in 2022 to 10.3 million in 2023.
