Groupe ADP is the official partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The announcement was made on 4 April at the 2023 Managers Meeting in Paris by Augustin de Romanet, Chairman and CEO of Groupe ADP, in the presence of Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris Olympic Games Organising Committee (Cojo). This partnership is in line with the Group's commitment to hospitality and customer care: the Paris airports will be the first point of entry for visitors from 206 countries worldwide. “We are embarking on an extraordinary adventure,” said Tony Estanguet. “We will be welcoming the world to Paris and Groupe ADP will play a vital role. You are now Paris 2024 ambassadors and we are relying on you to make this experience unforgettable. Let's be ambitious together!” Augustin de Romanet concluded: “The pressure is on; we will have to overcome some considerable challenges, but we have a great team. We will make France shine!”

Maintaining a forward-looking vision is the aim of the training programme underway at Paris-Orly. “We want to create a network of experts with programming knowledge” , explains Philippe Laborie, Deputy Managing Director of Paris-Orly, who initiated this training for some fifteen employees from the ECP (Engineering & Capital Projects) Divisions of the two airports and the DCL (Customer Division). “This initiative addresses a need for programming skills on some major investment projects, with a 360° view encompassing the terminals, land access, airside, power, and heating.” Recognised and certified by the Human Resources Division, it will enable the trained employees to become experts, working for Groupe ADP, who are capable of analysing all the complexities of the airport process and defining future projects.

On 27 March, Groupe ADP signed a commitment charter with the French Government, infrastructure operators (SNCF, RATP, UTP*) and advertising agencies (JC Decaux and MediaTransports) to reduce the energy consumption of illuminated advertising panels. This charter, signed by Augustin de Romanet in the presence of Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister for the Energy Transition, and Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate for Transport, aims to switch off or, failing that, put on standby the illuminated advertising devices located in our airports when they are closed to the public, by 1 January 2024. It includes a commitment to reduce the Group's electricity consumption by 30% in 2026 compared to 2016, under a contract with JC Decaux. This charter highlights the company's voluntary commitment to go beyond current regulations. An energy-saving project led by the Customer Division and JC Decaux, with support from the Sustainable Development and Public Affairs Division.

A ONE GROUP SEMINAR
ORGANISED BY DEV AND DGO, A FIRST

This international seminar was a highlight in the context of the One Group strategy, explained by Xavier Hurstel (DEV) and Fernando Echegaray (DGO). Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

The annual international seminar was jointly organised by the Operations and Development Divisions (DGO and DEV). It was the first seminar of its kind and took place in Paris on 4 April. More than a hundred people attended, from the Group’s representations abroad and the DGO and DEV teams in Paris. The programme highlighted the Group's expertise in operations, engineering and innovation through Airport Services, the air connectivity strategy and investment opportunities. The global approach provided us with a complete overview of all the issues related to international expansion, particularly in terms of mobility, employee safety and ethics & compliance. “This event helps to forge links and consolidate the One Group network, while demonstrating the daily cooperation and mutual enrichment of the teams that make Groupe ADP a world leader in the sector, operating airports using a multi-local approach”, emphasised Fernando Echegaray, Head of the Operations Division. “Airport investments remain a priority”, explained Xavier Hurstel, Head of Development. “In particular, we are looking at opportunities in the Americas, in Asia Pacific with GMR Airports and in Africa and Central Asia with TAV.”

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
FOR MERCHANT AVIATION IN TORONTO-PEARSON

As Canada's largest airport (35.6 million passengers in 2022), Toronto-Pearson approached Merchant Aviation for assistance with its long-term development strategy and investment planning. Credit: Renaud Boidin for Groupe ADP.

Merchant Aviation, a Groupe ADP subsidiary, has successfully completed its first mission in Canada. A consultancy mission was awarded at the end of 2021, in partnership with Canadian architectural firm Zeidler, for Toronto-Pearson Airport on its long-term development strategy and investment planning. “We were asked to assist them with their ambitious long-term growth plan and to help them think through their investment programme and project choices”, explains Renaud Boidin, Senior Airport Planner at Merchant Aviation. “This mission has allowed us to establish a privileged relationship with executive management at the highest level of the GTAA (Greater Toronto Airports Authority), opening up future opportunities.” Smart technologies, customer experience, real estate, cargo and more were studied with the support of Groupe ADP experts and some of them will eventually lead to new projects. Merchant Aviation's planning team, under the leadership of Ahmed Soua, was also involved in the long-term master planning studies.

BON A SAVOIR
LES ACTUALITES DU MONDE AEROPORTUAIRE

NO MORE NIGHT FLIGHTS OR PRIVATE JETS AT AMSTERDAM-SCHIPHOL

Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport has announced a ban on night flights and private jets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. Aircraft will not be permitted to take off between midnight and 6:00 am and will not be allowed to land before 5:00 am. These changes are expected to come into effect from 2025-2026. In addition, the Netherlands has declared that it will be reducing flight numbers at Schiphol to 440,000 per year by 2024, down from a pre-Covid level of 500,000, to limit noise pollution and emissions.

ITA AIRWAYS AND LUFTHANSA ONE STEP CLOSER TO A MERGER

ITA Airways, the successor to Alitalia, and Lufthansa have taken a further step towards a union, agreeing on an industrial plan for the development of the Italian airline in the event of a takeover by the German airline giant. The final issue to be resolved is the transaction amount. Lufthansa wants a 40% share, initially valued at €250-300 million and later revised downwards to approximately €200 million.

HEAVY LOSSES FOR CHINESE AIR TRANSPORT IN 2022

The three main Chinese airlines (China Eastern, Air China, China Southern) recorded losses of more than €14 billion in 2022, penalised in their domestic market by the zero-Covid policy and restrictions on foreign travel. Following three years of restrictions, China finally began reissuing foreign tourist visas in mid-March, while Chinese nationals have been able to leave their country for tourism purposes since January. But the number of international connections remains low at the moment and fares are very high.

TRANSAVIA: REAL-TIME ALERTS TO REDUCE JET FUEL CONSUMPTION

Openairlines, a Toulouse-based company, is a pioneer in eco-piloting for aircraft and has developed software that saves up to 5% of jet fuel on each flight. Launched ten years ago, the solution has already won over some fifty airlines, including Air France and easyJet. This year, the SME together with Transavia and Philippines Airlines will be testing the sending of real-time alerts to pilots in order to implement procedures that will further reduce the environmental footprint of aircraft.
