FEEDBACK ON THE “ADDITIONAL SORTING” TRIAL AT PARIS-CHARLES DE GAULLE

Container waste arrives at the BD link loading bay and is then sorted by Paprec teams. Credit: CDGU.

Since the summer of 2022, the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Terminals Division teams (CDG9) and those of the Networks and Access Division (CDGU) have been running an experiment in “additional sorting” at the BD link loading bay. The aim, in line with the airport's environmental roadmap, is to improve the quality of selective waste collection. Additional sorting is therefore carried out on the waste collected in the terminals, which is then deposited on the loading bays by a manager from Paprec. This experiment has borne fruit, since over the course of the experiment, a 12% increase in the rate of material recovery was observed. In view of these results, the trial could be extended during 2023/2024. In April, an industrial bottle crusher will be installed to separate the remaining packaging. The collection at source of organic waste and glass bottles will also be introduced. The aim of all these measures is to recover more than 50% of waste at the BD loading bay.

SECURITY CONTRACTS RENEWED FOR 8 YEARS

Lalaina Randria (DGOST) and Romain Ditto (DHAS) were heavily involved in the renewal of the security contracts, in close collaboration with the three airport divisions and the Customer Division. Credit: Sébastien Aubry for Groupe ADP.

The renewed security contracts took effect on 1 April. This is the result of close collaboration over the past year between the three airport divisions, the Operations Division, the Procurement Division and the Customer Division. For the first time, this call for tenders concerned Paris-Orly, Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Le Bourget*. “Harmonisation was important to us, given the significant focus on passenger service quality and compliance”, explains Lalaina Randria (DGOST), Head of the Security Process. For example, specifications have been strengthened to take better account of service quality requirements, and the criteria for selecting suppliers have given greater consideration to CSR. In addition, the contracts for cabin baggage screening and terminal staff screening have been combined. “The duration of the contracts is 8 years instead of the previous 7 to offer more clarity to service providers”, explains Romain Ditto (DHAS), Procurement Manager. Bonus/penalty clauses have been incorporated, with the service provider receiving a bonus if more than 95% of passengers wait less than 10 minutes.

ZAGREB "SCHENGENISES" ITS TERMINAL

Traffic at Zagreb Airport is primarily driven by the domestic and Schengen segments, fuelled in particular by routes to and from Germany. Credit: Nicolas Duthilleul and Stéphane Sby Balmy for Groupe ADP.

Croatia has just joined the Schengen area of free movement, and the eurozone. Zagreb's Franjo Tudman Airport has therefore “schengenised” its terminal and officially switched to dual status on 26 March following the completion of refurbishment works. “Four months of work were required to support this transformation of flows” , explains Nicolas Duthilleul, Chief Operating Officer for MZLZ, the company that manages the airport. “Schengen and domestic traffic now represent 70% of our flows, whereas previously 80% of traffic was generated by international routes. ” The organisation of the terminal itself has been redesigned: the flow of traffic has been restructured, including for airport community staff, signage has been updated and the police booths have been moved. Zagreb Airport, in which Groupe ADP is a shareholder through the ZAIC consortium, recorded traffic of 3.4 million passengers in 2022, or 90.9% of 2019 traffic levels.
