The challenges associated with hosting the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the main focus of the seminar which brought together the Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airport communities at the Paris Prefecture in December. The event was notably attended by the French Minister for Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castera, and the French Minister for Transport, Clément Beaune. Access and mobility, hospitality and flexibility, customer service for people with disabilities, mobilisation and the operational volunteering programme... These and many more topics were covered as part of the presentation of the overall airport operations plan prepared by the various stakeholders involved in hosting the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Gaming for recruitment. A first-of-its-kind job dating event recently took place at Paris-Le Bourget Airport, in the presence of a number of elected representatives. This initiative was led by the Mission Locale Paris Terres d'Envol in partnership with Atletec, a company specialising in Esports and digital technology. The aim was to introduce young people aged between 16 and 25, who had dropped out of school and were looking for work, to recruiters, some of whom, such as Derichebourg and Securitas, had jobs available at Paris-Le Bourget and Paris-Charles de Gaulle. “We're using a ground-breaking method that has already proven to be successful”, explains Romain Charlopin, Director of the Mission Locale Paris Terres d'Envol. “It helps us to identify a wide range of skills, such as the ability to work within a team, interpersonal skills and adaptability.” The Mission Locale Paris Terres d'Envol provides customised support in all the towns and cities in the Seine-Saint-Denis region.

Launched in 2017 by the Operations Division and the Engineering & Capital Projects Division, the process of standardising the airports’ landside and airside facilities now encompasses a total of six technical fields: baggage sorting, fluid and electrical energy, airport infrastructure, industrial IT, energy efficiency-decarbonisation and electromechanics. “The aim of this approach, based on utilising the skills and know-how of staff working at the airports and in the technical divisions, is to strengthen our operational robustness whilst saving money and optimising resources upstream of projects”, explains Nicolas Jadoul, Head of the Technical Experts and Standardisation Unit.

“SMART AIRPORT” COMMITTEE: SUPPORTING THE AUTOMATION OF AIRPORTS

One of the pillars of the 2025 Pioneers roadmap is to offer passengers at Groupe ADP airports in Paris and abroad the smoothest and highest-quality experience possible, notably through the automation of check-in and boarding procedures, known as "smartisation". To achieve these objectives, the twenty or so airports within the Group can count on the support and monitoring of their project implementation by the “Smart Airport” Committee, which meets twice a year. December's meeting marked a clear step forward in this process of digitisation, with the widespread installation and use of self-service kiosks and automated baggage drop-offs in the check-in areas at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly. “This is an important development for our passenger customers in Paris”, highlights Loïc Briand, who with his teams is in charge of the overall coordination of this project within the Operations Division. “In addition, four airports managed by TAV Airports are likely to become “fully digital” by 2025.”

NICARAGUA TO BUILD AN AIRPORT WITH CHINA'S HELP

Nicaragua has signed a $430-million loan with China to finance the construction by a Chinese company of an international airport and a liquefied gas terminal. Both projects will be located near the Nicaraguan capital of Managua. The new airport will improve the country's air links with Asia and Europe in particular. China and Nicaragua signed a free trade agreement last August, and have stepped up their cooperation since re-establishing diplomatic relations in 2021.
